Summary Paper – Understanding by Design

As we continue to think about instructional planning, let’s take a look at beginning with the end in mind. While your text does not mention this, more and more school districts are challenging schools to use Grant Wiggins and Jay McTigh’s research in backward design. The chapter from their book will either acquaint you with backward design or reinforce what you may already know about planning lessons with the end in mind. As you may know, this is quite different from listing objectives and proceeding “from the front.”
